Nail Polish: It’s a love hate relationship.

I was hoping to provide a new post once a month. I know that is not a lot, but I do need time to develop new obsessions and collections, and I do not want to give you all my best right away! However, the blog winds are blowing and calling my name, so I have decided to write the next obsession: Nail Polish.

This obsession is relatively recent, within the past month or two in fact. You may be wondering how exactly that could be seeing as nail polish for some is their basic need to their beauty regime. I on the other hand have been a stickler for the clear stuff. I find that nail polish can be a pain to put on and even more so a pain to KEEP on, and if their are any chips at all, I feel messy. Therefor it has been my habit to just have a clear nail polish for my hands–sleek and shiny, but simple and classic. It happens to also stay on longer and chips go unnoticed.

*UPDATE* (June 27, 2013)
images I just discovered an amazing nail polish that I just have to share. Today I was in at Jean Coutu and found Maybelline Colour Show Polka Dots nail polish on sale for $1.99 (normally 3 something I think). I grabbed the last bottle of “Drops of Jade 05“. IT IS GOREOUS!! Now my skin is pretty pale so colours dont look good on me, but this mossy-mint green with black and white dots is just beautiful. I definitely recommend this polish (especially because its so cheap–even at regular price!)

Instead I have been turned on by these more neutral colours. I first saw this image for Sephora’s grey nail polish, but because there are only two Sephora’s in Montreal…and not even ON the island I believe, I have searched for other options. Instead I discovered GOSH‘s “Miss Grey” at Pharmaprix (Shopper’s Drugmart), on sale it was 5.99$. It is not very easy to put on, but it is a great colour and worth the hassle I find. It is a bit darker compared to the Sephora OPI (which on the website is called “Break A Leg-Warmer!”, but a great substitute. Gosh also has some other great neutral colours that I will include in a gallery below.

Finally, I have to admit, I am a Stickler for Sparkle. My new favourite sparkle trend that you can find in many nail polish brands is this light champagne-pink colour. My favourite being Salley Hansen’s Xtreme Wear “Strobe Light”. It takes a few coats to really build up the colour and sparkles, but it is gorgeous when on, and about $2.75 at Zellers (soon to be replaced by Target).  I have to say I love Salley Hansen Xtreme Wear nail polish. It is cheap, comes in a large variety of colours, and stays on the nail pretty great. Wet n Wild Fast Dry also has an interesting sparkly nail polish that I think would be perfect for new years, “Party of Five Glitters”  (ranging about $3.50 at Zellers).
Again this nail polish requires many coats to get a lot of sparkle (and I even put down a base coat of smaller sparkles or a even a solid colour), but these giant sparkles are something emerging in a variety of brands.

I’m also in love with metal looking nail polish, but I missed the boat on that,  Sally Hansens Chrome line has been discontinued, and I read it wasn’t that great anyways.

Anyways, it didn’t take too long for me to feel the tedious upkeep of coloured nail polish, and after a couple months I am already back to my loyal clear-coat. I must admit though, it is nice to have around for special occasions and rainy days.
